The Holy Spirit
2 Corinthians 1:22
Even He having sealed us, and having given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

2 Corinthians 5:5
And the One having worked in us for this same thing is God, who also is
giving us the earnest of the Spirit.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things and shall remind you of all things that I said to you.      John 14:26
In my own words;
God, His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit were together when God created the heavens and the earth. God the Father, sent His son Jesus Christ to the earth, and he lived among us for about 33 years. The reason He came is to die on the cross for our sins and to open up a new and living way for us. After he rose from the dead, he ascended back to his Father and He is seated at the right of the throne of God and lives to always make intercession for us and He will come back a second time to gather His saints. With Jesus return to heaven, He did not leave us desolate, but God sent the Holy Spirit to be among us, to be in His chosen ones and to unite us and lead us and guide us...
Spurgeon said that the Holy Spirit is a piece of heaven in us now...
This new creation, the Holy Spirit in us, that is what makes us different from the whole world!

How do you know that you are one of God's children?

For every one who has the Holy Spirit is one of God's children. God gives his Spirit and the Holy Spirit sanctifies us, meaning through him we overcome living according to the flesh and are led to live according to the Spirit and become more and more like Jesus Christ. God's work is one of choosing and regenerating, Jesus work is one of redeeming his own and the Holy Spirit is the one who sanctifies us.
This is amazing and only the Lord can do it and it is his pleasure to do it and an extreme honor for us to be part of Him! As believers let us make sure that we are led by the Holy Spirit and that we have proof that we have the Holy Spirit in us.
The purpose, work and ministry of the Holy Spirit in the Life of a Believer.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16‭-‬17 ESV
“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.                                         John 14:25‭-‬26 ESV
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.                                                                                                                                                                           John 16:13‭-‬14 ESV
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.                                                                                                                                                                           Romans 5:5
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.                    Romans 8:13-17
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.                                                                                                   Romans 8:26&27
And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’                                                                                                                          John 1:32‭-‬33 ESV (Also Mark 1:8, Mat 3:11)
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.                                                                     John 3:5‭-‬6
For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.                                      John 3:34 ESV
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.                       Matthew 4:1 ESV (also Mark 1:18)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,                                                                                                                                                                                              Matthew 28:19 ESV
And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.                                                                                    Mark 13:11 ESV
 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”                                                                   Luke 12:12 ESV
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”                                                                                                                                                     Luke 11:13 ESV
Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.                                                            John 7:37‭-‬39 ESV
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.                                       John 20:22 ESV
how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.                                                                                                                                                                              Hebrews 2:3&4
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,                                                                                                                                                            Titus 3:5
Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.                                                                                 2 Timothy 1:13&14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.          2 Corinthians 13:14
                   The Holy Spirit in the book of Acts;
And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”                                                                                                                                         Acts 1:8
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.                                                                                                                                                                                   Acts 2:1-4
For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: And in the last days it shall be, God declares,that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,                                  Acts 2:15-17
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.                                                                                                                             Acts 2:37&38
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.                                                                                            Acts 4:8&9&13&31
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord?                                 Acts 5:3&9
The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”                                                                                                                                Acts 5:30-32
Brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.                           Acts 6:3-6
“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Acts 7:51&55 Stephen witnessing to the Jews
Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,                                                                            Acts 8:14&15
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!                                                            Acts 8:18-20
And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away,                                                                 Acts 8:39
So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 9:17
So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.                                                                                                                      Acts 9:31
And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him,                                                                                            Acts 10:19
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Acts 10:38 (Peter preaching to Cornelius) While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.                                 Acts 10:44&45
And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”                                                                                       Acts 11:12-18
Barnabas; he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith.                                                                                           Acts 11:24
And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius).                                                                                                                                                  Acts 11:28
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia                                                          Acts 13:2&4
But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit,                                                                                                   Acts 13:9
And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.                                                                                                 Acts 13:52
And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.                                                                                                                                                 Acts 15:7-9
They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.    Acts 16:6
And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. There were about twelve men in all.                                      Acts 19:1-7
Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”                                                                                                                                         Acts 19:21
Paul said; now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me.                                                                 Acts 20:22
And having sought out the disciples, we stayed there for seven days. And through the Spirit they were telling Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.                                                                                                                                                                                  Acts 21:4
While we were staying for many days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’” When we heard this, we and the people there urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” And since he would not be persuaded, we ceased and said, “Let the will of the Lord be done.”                                                                                                                                                    Acts 21:10-14
And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:                                                                                                                                          Acts 28:25
Saint Augustine of Hippo;
O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.

Martin Lloyd-Jones;
in this great plan the Holy Spirit is the applier of salvation. It is His work to bring to us, and to make actual in us, in an experiential manner, that great salvation which we have been considering together and which the Son of God came into the world in order to work out. In the Godhead, the Holy Spirit is the executive, the executor
Now generally speaking, the position today is that the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is either neglected or it tends to be emphasised and exaggerated in a false manner.
The best way to approach the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is to start by noticing the names or the descriptive titles that are given to this blessed person. First of all, there are the many names that relate Him to the Father; let me enumerate some of them: the Spirit of God (Gen. 1:2); the Spirit of the Lord (Luke 4:18); the Spirit of our God (1 Cor. 6:11). Then another is, the Spirit of the Lord God, which is in Isaiah 61:1. Our Lord speaks, in Matthew 10:20, of the Spirit of your Father, while Paul refers to the Spirit of the living God (2 Cor. 3:3). My Spirit, says God, in Genesis 6:3, and the psalmist asks, ‘Whither shall I go from thy Spirit?’ (Ps. 139:7). He is referred to as his Spirit—God’s Spirit—in Numbers 11:29; and Paul, in Romans 8:11, uses the phrase the Spirit of him [God the Father] that raised up Jesus from the dead. All these are descriptive titles referring to the Holy Spirit in terms of His relationship to the Father.
Why, then, is He called the Holy Spirit? Surely, the explanation is that it is His special work to produce holiness and order in all that He does in the application of Christ’s work of salvation. he produces Holiness in us;
1 Cor 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
2 Cor 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
My thoughts;
The Holy Spirit is; 1) in us 2) with us 3) our Leader & Guide 4) our Teacher 5) our Comforter & Helper 6) our Intercessor 7) because of him we have Power from God 8) by the Spirit we put to death the deeds of the body 9) He speaks through us 10) He reveals God’s word to us 11) He gives spiritual gifts
Extremes; 1. no Holy Spirit 2. extreme spiritualism

Puritans;Puritans believed that it was necessary to be in a covenant relationship with God in order to be redeemed from one’s sinful condition, that God had chosen to reveal salvation through preaching, and that the Holy Spirit was the energizing instrument of
